One Day in Whistler, in the Summer – The Perfect Itinerary
A day in Whistler BC in the winter is pretty straight forward. It will likely involve skiing and/or snowboarding with in-between breaks to reenergize over bites to eat before returning to the slopes, concluded by a warm beverage near a cozy fireplace somewhere in the village. The summer however, is a whole other animal. First-time summer season visitors to our resort community are pleasantly surprised by all that the warm months have to offer up here on the mountain. However they are also at a loss when it comes to the wide variety of “things to do” here in the summer, especially if they are just visiting for one day. As an integral part of the Whistler Village business community we tend to look out for our guests, even if they have yet to sample from our menu. That is why we have put together a one-day itinerary so that you can make the most of your brief yet welcoming stay.
A One-Day Summertime Itinerary for First-Time Visitors to Whistler Village
Break of Dawn Coffee in the Village – There is nothing quite like waking up, or arriving, in Whistler Village in the middle of the summer. In the early AM most of you are on the hunt for some quality java and there is no better place to satiate this desire than in the village. The coffee shops lining our community collect early rising locals and tourists alike while their expansive patios open up an incomparable view of the mountain. Free WiFi is abundant in the village so no matter if you need catch up on emails or announce your Whistler arrival via Instagram you can do so with ease while enjoying your cup. Popular AM cafes for sipping espresso while surfing (the web), conversing, or doing nothing at all include Lift and Moguls among the usual suspects of franchise coffee shops.
Morning Outdoor Activities – Whistler is all about the great outdoors so you’ll want to take advantage of the numerous activities at your disposal starting with the AM. With the morning sun in full swing why not head to our nearest golf course to hit the links or driving range? The Arnold Palmer designed Whistler Golf Club is easily accessible right near the village. Are tee-times not your cup of tea? No worries, other popular AM activities include visits to our literal watering holes such as the popular Lost Lake among others or world class mountain biking which is as common to Whistler in the summer as skiing is in the winter. While the above are fun for the whole family those with smaller children in tow will want to get a head start on their little ones’ day of fun by visiting the kids summertime adventure zone (near the Fairmont Chateau resort) where they can soak up the scene in the spray park, maze, forest luge, mini-golf course, and more.
Boutique Shopping at Noon – Take a brief break from your outdoor activities, grab a handheld snack (or join us for lunch first) and hit the village stroll to shop one of the most unique retail collectives in the entire country. No matter if you have a penchant for trendy fashions, action sports gear, eclectic household wares, or one-of-a-kind finds, Whistler Village has it all.
Afternoon Outdoor Activities – Drop your shopping bags off at the hotel or into the trunk of your car because it’s time to get back out there and enjoy the glory of summer in Whistler. There is no other suggestion for casual first-time visitors than to scrap any fear of heights they may have and to get on board the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for a 360 degree birds-eye view of the lush summertime peaks, mountainsides, and beveled valleys of Whistler resort. However if you’re looking for something more adventurous (this is Whistler after all) you can rev it up with an ATV ride, zip-lining adventure, bungee-jumping insanity, or even summertime glacier skiing/boarding. Whew, we’ve had quite the workout just thinking about it all.
Wind Down Post-Sunset With Dinner, Desserts, and Specialty Beverages – Chances are that as soon as the sun sets you and your entourage are ready for some serious relaxation and refreshment in a vibrant atmosphere to reflect on the day. The Mexican Corner Restaurant offers that exact casual dining experience and is the gathering place for locals and all else who have happened upon our village. Have a glance at our dinner, dessert, and beverage menu to transport your senses to imagine what it will be like to conclude your perfect day in Whistler within the walls of the most welcoming restaurant on the mountain.
The above itinerary is by no means the be-all end-all of things to do in Whistler. In the months ahead we intend to use our new blog not only to inform you about our authentic Mexican cuisine and the ongoings of our restaurant, but to fill you in on the entire community of which we call home.
