Had your fill of festivities during this past Christmas week in Whistler? Of course not! You’re in town to enjoy all that the village and entire Blackcomb scene has to offer. There is nary a better time to visit our resort town than during the holidays and with New Years Day and Eve arriving this week a full slate of events and activities are at your disposal. Whether in town with friends or an all-ages family one (or more) of these top five recommended events will be for you.

5 Recommended New Years Eve and Day Events in Whistler Village for the 2015-16 Season

1. Whistler Presents New Year’s Eve @ Whistler Village – Dec 31 (6 PM to Midnight)

This is the premiere family friendly NYE affair in Whistler. Alcohol-free and inviting to all, locals and visitors converge upon Whistler Village to celebrate the arrival of the new year. The event includes multiple venues and showcases numerous performances, an artisan market, dancing, ice skating and a special “party/play zone” for children. There is a 9 PM and 12 AM countdown to ensure that all in attendance get the full-experience, even if their bedtime has them tucked-in before the clock strikes 2016. For full access to the event, tickets can be purchased in advance at $15 for adults ($20 if purchasing on the day of the event), $10 for kids aged 12 and under, and FREE for ages 2 and under.

2. NYE Fire & Ice Show @Skier’s Plaza – Dec 31 (11:30 PM to 12 AM)

We’ve already included Whistler’s famed Fire & Ice show on our Best Christmas Week Events list, but they have added an additional show (in addition to its normal Sunday schedule) for NYE festivities. Participating extreme athletes put a little extra pep in their step (or should we say skis/boards) for the free New Year’s Eve edition which has them hurling their bodies through a ring of fire before the sky ignites with post-exhibition fireworks to ring in the new year.

3. Whistler NYE Fireworks Display @ Skier’s Plaza – Dec 31 Midnight

Concluding the special Fire & Ice show is the official New Year’s Eve countdown for Whistler, completed by an incomparable fireworks display. The backdrop of Whistler Blackcomb and its powdered slopes and snow-capped pines is illuminated with each explosion, making for one of the most photogenic fireworks shows on the globe. Our Whistler Village restaurant is located right at Skier’s Plaza at the base of Whistler Mountain, making it the perfect place for you and your party to come by for dinner before the pre-fireworks (and Fire & Ice) show begins.

4. Kids’ Night Out @ Blackcomb Base – Jan 1 (5:30 PM to 9 PM)

Celebrate the first full day of the new year with your kids by taking them to the base of Blackcomb for Kids’ Night Out on January 1. This evening program is for ages 5-12 and includes downhill tubing, cross-country skiing, and/or ice skating depending on skill and comfort level. Dinner, beverages, and snacks are included in the $59 ticket. Call 604-967-8950 for more information.

5. Whistler Holiday Experience @ Whistler Conference Centre – Jan 1 (12 PM to 6 PM)

This is yet another all-ages holiday event in Whistler to take in. Bring the entire family indoors for the Whistler Holiday Experience fun zone. Included is a mini-putt golf course, a bouncy castle (of course), crafts, games, and more. Fret not if you’re looking for a little escape while the young ones play, as a parents’ zone has been added, where grown-ups can enjoy hot coffee/cocoa and wireless access without distraction.

And as always, we invite you to stop by The Mexican Corner Restaurant to bookend your New Year celebrations, be it for holiday cocktails or to try our winter menu before the season changes. Our venue is indeed the most festive in the village.

Feliz año nuevo!
